Luis is an Operating Partner with Spur and brings over 25 years of executive leadership and board experience in industrial manufacturing, distribution, and B2B services.
Prior to joining Spur, Luis was CEO of SPARTACO where he orchestrated the integration and restructuring of the entire $50M+ business. With an emphasis on engineering, product development, and sales structure, the Tiiger business unit experienced 100% growth within two years, and the Jameson business unit achieved 10% CAGR over four years. EBITDA margin increased and the eCommerce business grew to $5M+ in less than three years. He continues to serve as a Board Member.
As CEO of The Wellmark Company, Luis grew EBITDA 45% and revenue 40% in two years, ultimately selling the business at 12X EBITDA.
As President and GM of TYCO, Luis led the integration and turnaround of three previous founder-led acquisitions for the world’s largest manufacturer of valves, actuators, and flow controls products. He held full P&L responsibility for a manufacturing facility, three distribution centers, and a service center supporting clients globally, and served as President of Tyco Flow Control in South America. Under Luis' leadership the team turned around the negatively performing businesses to 10% EBIT in one year and grew the business to $75M over four years while integrating four business units, expanding into new markets, and creating a new service business.
Luis earned his MBA from The Tuck School Of Business at Dartmouth. He lives in Denver, Colorado with his wife and their children.
As business leaders, I believe the three main challenges we face today are the following: 1) effectively adjusting our strategies in an ever-changing environment, 2) timely adopting new technologies and embracing general disruptors, and 3) consistently inspiring the new workforce. The most difficult part, however, is doing all this while protecting the company’s culture, brand, and value.
For over 25 years, I have been a top-level executive in both private equity and public business environments; in the US and overseas. I have consistently transformed under-performing organizations and spurred dramatic revenue and earnings growth in very difficult conditions.
These accomplishments are a result of having built teams rooted in collaboration, accountability, agility, trust, and respect; all while creating learning environments in which diverse thoughts are encouraged and rewarded. Nonetheless, I continue the relentless pursuit of perfecting my principle-based leadership skills.
